The 120Hz ProMotion displays on Apple‘s new iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are impressive, however, only a few applications support 120 frames per second. It’s mostly system applications.
Apple is finally introducing support for all apps to enjoy the buttery-smooth experience with the next iOS 15.4 version. Apple’s iOS 15.4 beta now supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
iOS 15.4 is still in beta for now, and the news comes from a developer who claims to have received it from “someone at Apple”. He provided proof in the form of a screenshot.
Yay, got a little message from someone at Apple today that this is fixed in the iOS 15.4 betas and all apps automatically get 120 Hz animations on supported iPhones going forward, and just confirmed myself. (See attached, 1/120 = 8.33 ms) 🥳🥳🥳 https://t.co/EtZ9zkrM6S pic.twitter.com/04cl8uLb11

Apple appears to have solved the Core Animation flaw that prevented animations from exceeding 60 frames per second. However, it can’t be said that all applications will automatically run at 120 fps, or whether some developers may need to make changes to their code.
