Amazon has announced the purchase of Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).
Terms of the transaction
The purchase cost Amazon $8.45 billion. And it’s Amazon’s second-largest deal since the $13.7 billion purchase of Whole Foods in 2017.
Recall that the MGM studio has been operating since 1924. In 2010, she had to declare herself bankrupt, but after a while the studio announced its exit from bankruptcy. The search for potential buyers has been going on since the end of last year.
Under the terms of the deal, Amazon gets the right to all MGM content, which is more than 4,000 films and 17,000 episodes of TV series. Among them are pictures about James Bond, “Rocky”, “Silence of the Lambs”, “Rain Man”, “Terminator”, “Pink Panther”, TV series “Fargo”, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “Vikings”, “Stargate”.
With this solid “collection”, Amazon will add to its Prime Video library to compete with other streaming services.
