IFixit experts did not ignore the second generation of Apple AirPods 2 wireless headphones, they disassembled them and evaluated the maintainability. Beware, Spoiler: In comparison with the first AirPods, almost nothing has changed.
Verdict
Unfortunately, the new AirPods almost impossible to repair. Apple AirPods 2 cannot be repaired, you would need to replace one of the components as the headphones can not be disassembled without breaking them completely.
iFixit, says the Apple AirPods 2 “Not designed to be serviced” and “Sealed-in batteries limit the AirPods’ lifespan”.
Some improvements were still found in the headphone case: the metal loop and waterproof cover of the board can make it more durable.
As a result, the Apple AirPods 2, like the first Apple AirPods, get 0 out of 10 possible points for maintainability. Recall, their competitors – Samsung Galaxy Buds, on the contrary, showed a decent result – 6 points out of 10.
