Last year, the network reported that Apple is developing its own 5G modem. Now a well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (Ming-Chi Kuo) gave a forecast about the release of the first smartphones with these modems.
Recall that at the moment Apple uses 5G modems from Qualcomm. According to the analyst, both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, which will be released this year and next year, respectively, will still use these modems.
But in 2023, the analyst is sure, the first iPhone with a modem of its own production will appear on the market. By the way, the same terms are called by Barclays analysts. And, it should be noted, this is quite a realistic deadline.
Apple modems are expected to offer higher speed, improved latency, and other advantages over Qualcomm or Intel modems. The company has every opportunity to do this because back in 2019, it bought a large part of Intel’s modem business, which “will help accelerate the development of future products and allow Apple to differentiate in the future.”
