According to the Dallas Business Journal (via The Verge), both wireless providers agreed to resolve the lawsuit today. Although the settlement terms are unknown, there is news that AT&T’s 5G Evolution customers will continue to see controversial icons on their phones.

AT&T does offer mobile 5G services through invitations from 19 markets. The network is accessed via the Netgear Nighthawk 5G mobile hotspot and reaches a peak download speed of 1Gbps.

As Law360 reported for the first time, it ended the brand controversy that Sprint considered to be false and misleading. AT&T said in a statement to ZDNet that the two sides have resolved the differences amicably.

After the lawsuit ends, AT&T will continue to use its 5G Evolution ads.

Sprint filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of the United States District Court in New York in February, alleging that AT&T’s advertising made consumers think that its 4G LTE Advanced network is actually 5G.

The complaint alleges that AT&T makes itself appear to be more advanced than its competitors, causing “unrecoverable harm” to Sprint.

T-Mobile, which plans to merge with Sprint this year, also ridiculed AT&T’s 5G E brand, while Verizon CTO Kyle Malady criticized the move.

In another attack on AT&T’s 5G E advertising, a study released last month by OpenSignal found that 5G E has a transmission speed equal to or lower than that of an enhanced 4G LTE network. However, AT&T stated that OpenSignal’s approach is flawed.
