Bloomberg: REvil hackers stole blueprints of a new MacBook from an Apple supplier and demand $50 million from the company

During recent Apple presentation, a group of Russian hackers REvil attacked one of the company’s key suppliers.

What is known?

We are talking about the Taiwanese company Quanta Computer Inc, which is engaged in the production of computers for Apple and other major players. For example, HP, Facebook, Google, etc. According to hackers, they broke into the system and stole drawings of an unannounced MacBook with a detailed description of the “filling”. The documents were created last month. That is, we are definitely talking about a new laptop model.

By the time the presentation was completed, the hackers had published 15 schemes and are now demanding a $50 million ransom from Apple. If the company does not pay this amount by May 1, REvil will continue to share the drawings of the device. Quanta has already officially confirmed the attack, but Apple has not yet commented on the situation.

By the way, the hackers specifically waited for yesterday’s presentation, as they wanted to make sure that they would not show the new MacBook.

Recall that yesterday at the Spring Loaded event, Apple announced the AirTag tags, an all-in-one iMac, the Apple TV 4K set-top box, the updated iPad Pro, the new Podcasts app, as well as the purple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.
