First iPad Pro with M1 processor, Liquid Retina XDR display with mini-LED, 5G and Thunderbolt

At today’s Apple Spring Loaded presentation, not only did the multi-colored iMac with the M1 chip make its debut — the iPad Pro tablet joined the ranks of Apple devices with a proprietary processor.

iPad Pro M1 Processor

The revolutionary M1 chip takes the performance of the iPad to a new level, and it’s not for nothing that Apple calls the novelty the most powerful model in the line. They promise that the CPU performance has increased by 50% compared to the previous generation.

In addition, the chip is also energy-efficient, so that the iPad Pro is able to work independently for a whole day, while maintaining a thin and light body. The M1 is complemented by a new-generation 16-core Apple Neural Engine processor, an advanced image signal processor (ISP), up to 16 GB of RAM and 2 TB of internal memory.

iPad Pro Display

Although the 11-inch model debuted today, now we will talk about the 12.9-inch one, as it has just received a Liquid Retina XDR display using mini-LED technology. It should provide increased energy efficiency and better brightness. The mini-LED backlight matrix has 10,000 individual LEDs and 2,596 local dimming zones, with each LED 100 times smaller than the standard version.

By the way, although the iPad Pro was the first Apple device with a mini-LED screen, this technology is far from new and is already used in high-end computer monitors and televisions.

In any case, the Liquid Retina XDR has a full-screen brightness of up to 1000 nits, a peak brightness of 1600 nits, a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, and wide P3 color support. And it supports all high quality image formats (HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG).

At the same time, both models received a ProMotion — adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz.

iPad Pro Cameras

Apple paid special attention to the TrueDepth camera system. The 12-megapixel front-facing camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens has a viewing angle of 122 degrees and a new Central Stage feature that allows you to track the person in the frame during video calls and focus on them. If there are several people, the image will be reduced to fit all of them in the frame.

The main camera is made in the form of a familiar square block and combines two sensors at 12 and 10 MP. There is also a LiDAR scanner, which helps with autofocus in low light.

What else?

For the first time in the series, the iPad Pro has received 5G support-following smartphones. For example, in the US, mmWave helps to reach 4 Gbit / s in ideal conditions. The tablet also supports eSIM.

In addition, the USB-C port now supports Thunderbolt and USB4. Thunderbolt has a peak data transfer rate of 40 Gbps and allows you to connect external monitors with a resolution of up to 6K. And starting next week, iPadOS 14.5 will be available.

iPad Pro Price

The 11-inch version of the Apple iPad Pro starts at $799, and the 12.9-inch version starts at $1099. Both are available in silver and space gray. Sales are due to start in mid-May, but pre-orders will open on April 30.
