Qualcomm and Swisscom to Commercialize 5G in Europe

Qualcomm announced on its website that the company will collaborate with Swisscom, OPPO, LG Electronics, Askey and WNC equipment manufacturers to encourage “the emergence of 5g commercial services in Europe with the launch of the Swisscom 5G network.”

All the equipment manufacturers in the announcement supporting Swisscom have used Qualcomm’S 5G solution, according to the American chip maker.

Premium 5G phones from OPPO and LG as well as the devices from Askey and WNC feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with an X50 5G modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver.

Swisscom has now obtained a number of government approvals license for the 5G band and is expected to be deployed across Switzerland this year.

The OPPO Reno 5G version supports the n78 frequency band below 6GHz in Switzerland and can support the 5G connection in any area with Swisscom 5G network coverage.

Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president, Qualcomm Europe/MEA, QUALCOMM Europe, Inc. said that “Qualcomm Technologies is proud to support Swisscom on the launch of the first commercial 5G network in Europe.”

He added that “This milestone is a testament to the strong collaboration that took place across the ecosystem to accelerate 5G commercialization by one year, allowing for the arrival new and exciting user experiences – and Qualcomm Technologies is at the heart of all of this. 5G is now here in Europe, ready to fundamentally enrich how we live our lives.”

According to the firm, the industry’s first commercial 5G mobile platform, are designed to unlock transformative new experiences including near-instant access to cloud services, shopping with AR, multiplayer cloud-based gaming, real-time video collaboration and more.
