STMicroelectronics has launched a car-specific high-resolution audio class D amplifier, which adds a safety alarm diagnosis function.
The newly launched HFDA801A from STMicroelectronics (STMicroelectronics; ST; NYSE: STM) is a high-resolution audio amplifier chip designed specifically for car audio systems with tight power configuration and cost-effectiveness. The HFDA801A has four channels. Channel, using 2MHz switching frequency, pulse width modulation (Pulse-Width Modulation; PWM) Class D amplifier, integrated high-performance digital-to-analog converter (DAC), can provide high-fidelity sound quality under any load conditions, on/off There is no noise in the off operation and there is no distortion in the output.
HFDA801A has a signal-to-noise ratio of 121dB, a dynamic range of 120dB, and an output noise of only 10μV. The audio performance is excellent, and the price is affordable, and the size is small. The feedback configuration of the integrated LC low-pass filter allows the amplifier to have an ultra-wide and smooth frequency response of up to 80kHz and minimizes the dependence on external components.
The high bandwidth allows the amplifier to be used in high-resolution (HD) audio situations, allowing designers to rely on excellent linearity and low distortion, regardless of the product quality of the selected inductors and capacitors.
This amplifier adopts the structure of internally supplying all the power supply voltage so that HFDA801A can draw power from the vehicle battery without adding an additional power converter. The new amplifier has a wide load range, even if high power drives four 2Ω low impedance loads, it can ensure stable performance.
In addition, by integrating real-time diagnosis, digital impedance measurement, and real-time load current monitor, HFDA801A can also be used for safety-related audio applications that must meet ASIL requirements, such as: Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS). HFDA801A is now offering samples and will be mass-produced in the second half of 2021.
