German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has announced its next electric car – the EQS. The novelty became the world’s first executive class electric car.
What is known?
Mercedes-Benz EQS received a sedan body and dimensions, like its fellow S-Class. The machine is 5265 mm long, 1926 mm wide, and 1512 mm high. The car boasts a futuristic appearance and a drag coefficient of 0.20. According to company representatives, this is the most aerodynamic production car in history. For comparison, the Tesla Model S has a figure of 0.23.
As for the interior, it has multiple trim options, customizable lighting, and a 55-inch MBUX Hyperscreen OLED panel. It is located across the entire width of the torpedo (length 141 cm) and is covered with one-piece curved glass. It is made at a temperature of 650 degrees.
The MBUX Hyperscreen system combines three screens: 12.3″ for the driver, 12.3″ for the passenger, and 17.7 “for the center. There are no physical buttons in the cabin, so all control is carried out using sensors. The screens support tactile feedback and can sense pressure. The software is a proprietary system with AI.
It can learn the habits of the driver and passenger, and then display relevant information and prompts on the displays. The user profile can be accessed using a fingerprint scanner. The MBUX Hyperscreen is powered by eight processors paired with 24GB of RAM.
At the start of sales, the Mercedes-Benz EQS will be offered in two versions: EQS 450+ and EQS 580 4Matic. The first has a 333 hp engine and rear-wheel drive, and the second has a 524 hp power plant. and four-wheel drive.
The car accelerates to 100 km / h in 6.2 and 4.3 seconds, respectively. The declared maximum speed is 210 km / h. Both versions received the same 107.8 kWh batteries with a power reserve of up to 770 km in the WLTP cycle. In the future, there will be another version with a 90 kWh battery.
Interestingly, the EQS also has a fully steerable chassis, which allows the rear wheels to turn up to 4.5 or 10 degrees (depending on the equipment), a Drive Pilot semi-autonomous driving system, and an electric four-door drive.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Price and when to expect?
Mercedes-Benz EQS sales will start at the end of this year. For a novelty, they will ask for $110,000. The machine will be manufactured at Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, Germany.
