As per the latest information received, Fitbit Devices will require Google Account to Login from 2023. Fitbit owners! Get ready to say goodby to FitBit Accounts, as You will now require a Google Account to Login into your Fitbit device from 2023.
Google completed the acquisition of Fitbit at the beginning of the last year. After getting it in the Google’s ecosystem, Google Rebranded it “Fitbit by Google”. But, the launch of the wearables keep continued as it used to before the acquisition.
You can still use the Fitbit accounts for Fitbit devices and service, But things won’t be same after 2023.
Fitbit has revealed all this by updating the support page, after the launch of Google accounts on Fitbit in 2023,
“some uses of Fitbit will require a Google account, including to sign up for Fitbit or activate newly released Fitbit devices and features.”
Starting from 2023 “exact date is not disclosed yet,” Gooogle account will be mandatory to use its services and activate a new device. However, existing users with Fitbit accounts will have options to transfer their data from Fitbit accounts to the Google accounts or keep using the Fitbit accounts as long as they are supported. Fitbit accounts will be supported at least until early 2025.
Google accounts will support a number of benefits on Fitbit for Google account users. Fitbit says, It will:
” support a number of benefits for Fitbit users, including a single login for Fitbit and other Google services, industry-leading account security, centralized privacy controls for Fitbit user data, and more features from Google on Fitbit.”
Company also states that:
“If you have a Fitbit account, after the launch of Google accounts on Fitbit, you’ll have the option to move Fitbit to your Google account or to continue to use your existing Fitbit devices and services with your Fitbit account for as long as it’s supported. Support of Fitbit accounts will continue until at least early 2025. After support of Fitbit accounts ends, a Google account will be required to use Fitbit. We’ll be transparent with our customers about the timeline for ending Fitbit accounts through notices within the Fitbit app, by email, and in help articles.”
However, If you are worried about your fitness data being shared with the Google, then you should be aware that Google will uphold the legally binding commitments it made with international regulators, to finalize the acquisition of the Fitbit. That means Fitbit health and wellness data won’t be used by Google for Google Ads.
